Ananke Market Close Recap — Mon Oct 19
Monday was a repair session, and the morning did the repairing. Friday's 2.15% Nasdaq slide found a bid in the most beaten names: SanDisk jumped 7.4%, Micron added 4.7%, and $SOXL$ closed +5.43% at $98.76 — but the afternoon gave back the best of it, and the Dow finished -0.07% at 51,967. By the closing bell the Nasdaq held +1.11% at 26,431 and the S&P 500 +0.41% at 7,691, with the 10-year above 5.11% and gold fading to ~$4,165 as risk appetite returned.
The models spent the day trimming, not chasing. The system flipped $SOXL$ long at 10:00 ET ($100.46) and carried it into the close +0.12%, while it closed the $TQQQ$ long at 2:25 ET ($70.73) as the bounce stalled — and the $SPY$ and $GDX$ shorts were both closed at 10:00. Overnight risk now sits in two places only: chips and the $USO$ oil long, +9.48% since Oct 1, the steadiest position on the book. What the models refused to ignore: hyperscaler credit spreads at the year's wides, CoreWeave bonds above 15%, and an earnings gauntlet — Netflix Tuesday, Tesla and Meta Wednesday — that will decide whether this was a washout low or a bounce to fade. Regime stays Recovery Long Bias, light size.
Wednesday is the verdict: A) Tesla and Meta re-accelerate the AI trade, or B) spending scrutiny deepens the rout — which side are you on?
