Ananke Market Morning Teaser — Tue Oct 20
The oil spike is unwinding — and stocks like it. Brent slid back toward $106 by midday, down about 2.5%, after topping $111 this morning on Middle East supply fears. The Dow pushes +1.0% near 52,470 while the S&P 500 holds +0.4% to 7,720 and the Nasdaq adds 0.2%.
Rotation is still the day’s engine: small-caps (+1.6%) and biotech (+3.1%) lead, while AI-linked names lag again — $NVDA$ sits slightly lower and the Nasdaq-100 trails at +0.1%. Cheaper crude also cools rate odds: a 25bp Fed hike on Oct 28 is now priced at just 14.9%, and the 10-year yield eased to 5.07%. Overnight, Asia sagged on AI funding doubts — KOSPI -4.3% on chip pressure, Nikkei -1.4%.
Ananke’s read: regime holds Recovery Long Bias (light). The book’s only equity LONG, $SOXL$, slipped back below its Oct 19 entry to -1.42% as chip pressure resurfaced — an intraday draw, underwater but intact by the model’s rules. The $USO$ LONG (+9.22% since Oct 1) keeps the cushion even as oil fades intraday. No open position in $SPY$, $TQQQ$ or $GDX$.
Netflix reports after the close (~4:01 p.m. ET) with the stock down 26% this year; Tesla, Meta and IBM land Wednesday. Tonight’s prints decide whether AI names rejoin the tape or the rotation runs without them.
Oil fade call: A) crude keeps sliding and rotation carries the tape higher, or B) a headline re-spikes oil and the day’s gains evaporate — which side are you on?
